Meet Marit: Senior developer that makes a impact

Marit

Marit joined the Flock in June, and we couldn't be more excited about it. Let's take a closer look at her role as senior full stack developer at Wild Goose.

Marit lives in Hasselt with her daughter and two black cats. In 2017, she obtained her degree in Applied Computer Science (application development) at PXL. She started out mainly as a backend developer, but soon discovered that frontend gives her at least as much energy. Today, she combines both domains and actively contributes ideas about the entire flow of applications, from architecture to user experience.

From developer to co-creator

Today, Marit works as a senior full stack Java developer on a challenging project in the financial sector. The application she is building was originally an internal tool but will soon be used directly by customers. That means coming up with new features, building integrations with other systems and rethinking the entire flow.

Working with UX

For this project, Marit is working with a dedicated UI/UX team for the first time. She sees this as a huge added value: it makes the screens consistent, the app more user-friendly and allows you to focus more on the code itself. They often sit down together to discuss what is technically feasible. This ensures that the user experience remains consistent and doesn't feel like you're jumping from app to app. In previous projects, she often had to think about user flows herself, in consultation with the product owner. Now the focus is more on technical implementation and collaboration with UX specialists. Two of Marit's great loves are Java and React. She is also enthusiastic about the possibilities of Azure and how tools such as Figma and Gen AI can be used to quickly visualise ideas and designs.

Are there certain soft skills that are essential?

This role is not just about programming. Critical thinking, the courage to engage in conversation and openness to improvement are essential. Coaching junior colleagues, keeping documentation up to date and ensuring that the team remains well informed are an important part of the job. And you mustn't be afraid to approach people yourself if something is unclear.

What is the best part of the job?

Freedom and ownership. Marit is given the space to put her own spin on how she approaches things. Not only does this provide learning opportunities, it also gives her self-confidence a significant boost.

Why Wild Goose?

Marit contacted Wild Goose and immediately felt a strong connection. For Marit, it's all about freedom, variety in projects, opportunities to coach colleagues and help build a corporate culture. At Wild Goose, all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place perfectly.
